Although this meditation is especially relevant during the summer solstice, it’s also one that you can return to whenever you want throughout the year. 

Summer Solstice and the Fire Element

In Chinese Medicine and Qi Gong, each season corresponds to a different Element and an organ within your body. Not surprisingly, the long, hot days of summer are associated with the Fire Element, which is also connected to your heart.  

When your Fire Element and Heart energy are strong, you feel inspired, energized, and full of joy. You also experience deep love for yourself and others, making it easy to enjoy healthy and thriving relationships. 

The Fire Element is strong during the summer especially around the summer solstice. All you have to do is step outside on a warm summer day to feel the aliveness and excitement that the Fire Element offers. This is one reason why people tend to go on trips and enjoy the great outdoors during the long days of summer. 

Although the Fire Element can naturally fuel your energy during summer, there are specific practices that can help you cultivate Fire’s positive qualities even more. One way to harness the season’s gifts is through meditation.

Below, we’ve included a brief yet powerful meditation to help you cultivate two of the Fire Element’s most important gifts: love and joy. When these gifts are present within you, everything in life feels more rich, alive, and connected. 

Guided Summer Solstice Meditation

Sit comfortably with your feet planted firmly on the ground. Close your eyes and take some slow, deep breaths as you relax your body and mind. If thoughts arise, acknowledge their presence and let them go.

After a few minutes of deep breathing, direct your attention to your chest and smile toward your heart. As you smile, send your heart some gratitude, love, and joy. Breathe slow and deep as you direct love and gratitude to your heart center.

Continue breathing deeply and radiating the intentions of gratitude, love, and joy to your heart. Keep smiling as you send yourself those nourishing qualities. With each breath, feel love and joy build and grow within you.  

After a couple of minutes, visualize a golden ball of light emanating from your heart center, just like the sun shining above you. The light of your heart carries the energy of gratitude, love, and joy. Keep smiling to your heart center and feel the golden ball of energy growing stronger and stronger. Continue breathing deeply throughout your meditation.

After another minute or two, visualize the light in your heart radiating love and joy throughout your body. Feel the energy of love and joy flowing down your arms to your fingertips. Imagine love and joy emanating down your spine, through your legs, and to your feet. See the light of self-love moving upward through your neck and feel it circulate in your head.

Continue breathing and smiling to your heart as you send yourself more and more love and joy. Feel that love and gratitude flourish in your heart center as it shines throughout your entire body.

Continue this meditation until you feel your entire being resonating with love and joy. Whenever you’re ready, give yourself one more smile and open your eyes. Take that feeling with you into the rest of your day.
